STRATEGY
Turn a ratio into equal parts. Everything else follows from what one part is worth.
- 1Write the ratio as parts: 3 : 5 means 3 parts and 5 parts
- 2Use the amount you know to find what 1 part is worth
- 3Multiply to get any share or the total
EXAMPLE
Red : blue = 3 : 5, and blue = 40. How many in total?
5 parts = 40, so 1 part = 8, so 8 parts = 64
